National School Counsellor and Psychologist Recognition Day
Friday 8th November 2024 was School Counsellor and School Psychologist Recognition Day. This week we celebrated Kelly Russell our School Counsellor.
This year's theme, "Little Moments, Lasting Change," perfectly reflects the profound impact of the daily work our counsellors do. Through small yet meaningful moments of listening, understanding, and connecting, they have helped students, families, and staff recognise their needs and strengths, fostering resilience and growth.
We are grateful for Kelly's skills, professionalism, dedication and all her hard work this year.
Christ the King Promotion, Performances and Collaboration
Our parish community is so wonderfully diverse, with many of us gathering together across schools, chapels, and aged care centres throughout the year. Outside of our regular local gatherings, we sometimes hear about the wider community, but rarely get the chance to come together as One Body.
On 24th November we will be combining all Sunday Masses so we can celebrate the Solemnity of Christ the King as One Body in a tangible way, with Mass at St Joseph’s Regional College at 10:00am Mass and festivities to follow. After Mass you can enjoy:
- Food
- Music
- Dancing
- Kids’ activities
We encourage everyone to consider registering to attend, getting an act together to perform, or join in by serving on the day. Just follow the link below to RSVP or express your interest in performing/serving.

Out of Uniform Day for our Parish Christmas Hampers Appeal
Each year the major act of service that our students and families make to our Parish is through the Christmas Hamper Appeal. Through your generosity over the years we have been able to supply hampers to those in need in our parish whether it be to ease the financial burden which Christmas brings to some or to let those experiencing grief or in need of personal support know that we as a parish care for them.
Today we have sent home with your child a note about our hamper appeal, out of uniform day and Christmas discos. Please assist us in helping our community by donating the nominated item on the printed copy of your child’s note between Week 6 (Monday 18th November) and Week 7 (Friday 29th November) so that we are able to assemble the hampers ready for delivery.

Matthew Flinders Drive Closure Update and Bus Pass Applications for 2025
Please see the below letter(s) for associated School Bus changes to accommodate the traffic switch between Emerald Drive / Matthew Flinders Drive commencing Thursday 21st November 2024 and information on bus pass applications for 2025.
For additional information, please refer to your schools timetabled services at: https://www.busways.com.au/nsw/school-services/school-timetables and select the link adjacent to your school’s name; “New timetable | 21 November 2024”. Alternatively, you can contact Busways Customer Service on 1300 69 2929 or infoline@busways.com.au.
Student Travel Applications
Applications are now open for 2025 School Student Transport Scheme (SSTS) travel.
Students progressing from Year 2 to Year 3 do not need to re-apply if they:
- are continuing at the same school, and
- are residing at the same address, and
- have not been sent an expiry notification from Transport for NSW.
Where a student meets the new distance eligibility, the system will automatically update their entitlement. If they do not meet the new eligibility, they will receive an expiry notification.
Students who change address, school, campus location, have repeated a year or received an expiry notification for their school travel entitlement need to renew or update their details before the end of term 4. This will ensure that schools can endorse applications, so their travel entitlement can remain valid for the start of the 2025 school year.
Students who have an entitlement approved under a medical condition that is due to expire will receive a notification advising them to re-apply.
Students living in rural and regional areas will receive their travel pass from their nominated transport operator. It may be issued via their school or be sent directly to them at home. Note: some rural and regional operators do not issue travel passes. Students/parents should confirm with their nominated operator if they do not receive a pass.
Terms of Use
All students are required to comply with the Student code of conduct. The code of conduct aims to ensure the safety and well-being of school children and other passengers. It is important that parents ensure their child is aware of this, as failure to comply with the code of conduct can result in a suspension from travel.

If your child is avoiding school, contact your child’s teacher so together you can explore what is happening for your child
If your child is avoiding school, it's crucial to proactively address the issue by contacting your child's teacher. Teachers play a key role in observing and understanding students' behaviours and can collaborate with you to identify and address any challenges your child may be facing.
Share your observations about your child's behaviour and express any concerns you may have. Be open and honest about the challenges your child is facing in attending school regularly.
Collaboratively work with the school and your child to explore possible causes for your child's avoidance of school. This could include academic challenges or social issues. Work together to develop and monitor strategies to address the identified issues.

Watch Help! My kid doesn't want to go to school by Maggie Dent.
Year 6 investigated natural disasters and the importance of early warning systems. They demonstrated their understanding via display posters and a coding program called CoSpaces. Year 6 has also been learning about how energy is transformed. These photos were taken during an experiment using thermometers to investigate the solar energy uptake on solids, liquids and gases.
